Grades Kindergarten – 8th
Our Elementary School program provides an opportunity for students to grow intellectually, spiritually, and emotionally as they study and interact in a faith-filled environment. The Catholic faith is infused into every subject area: Reading, Phonics, Writing, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science. Our curriculum is aligned with state and national standards. Learning often includes opportunities for flexible grouping, active learning, and varied forms of assessments.
Computer technology is integrated into the entire curriculum at MOQ, enhanced by the presence of interactive whiteboards in each classroom. Students learn technology by applying skills learned in our classrooms on a daily basis.
Kindergarten
Kindergarten students receive instruction in large and small group settings which help foster all learning styles. Small group stations allow for individualized differentiation.
Our kindergarten program introduces young students to an array of compelling academic lessons in technology, language arts & reading, science, math, and social studies, as well as extracurricular activities in physical education, music, Spanish, STEM, and art.
The goals of the Kindergarten Program are to help our students:
Primary Grades 1-3
Our primary program focuses on building educational formation for children to succeed in school and life by providing a nurturing and stimulating environment to support the development of each child as an individual.
Primary students are surrounded by encouraging faculty with over X percent with Higher Degrees in Education. Together with parents, teachers help students develop organizational skills and independence in work. Primary students participate in daily prayer and are given opportunities to lead at Mass.
The primary grade curriculum addresses the needs of the whole child – their intellectual, social/emotional, creative, physical, and spiritual development. Teachers combine their knowledge with students’ interests to promote an academically rich and creative environment. Our goal is to build a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
Encouraged to use critical thinking, creativity and problem-solving skills, students in grades 4-5 continue to build on the foundation started in the primary grades.
Intermediate Grades 4-5
The intermediate team of teachers at MOQ are skilled and focused on their task of helping students grow in confidence, independence, and preparedness. Students learn to organize notes, take ownership of their grades, and begin preparing for Jr High academic foundations. With a growing understanding of the inportance of securing their own learning, students explore, investigate, and draw conclusions. Learning to advocate for themselves in regards to understanding material is set as a foundation for students during the Intermediate grades.
We want our students to begin to develop a strong sense of independence and confidence during these years. Additionally, we encourage our students’ curiosity about the wider world and use technology to obtain information and communicate with others.
Junior High Grades 6 – 8
Through middle school, our students increase their academic competency and confidence, with increasing accountability, in preparation for the challenges of high school. The Jr. High curriculum is designed to emphasize academic and social-emotional development, self-responsibility, becoming a positive community member, and being an active participant in one’s own learning. MOQ School’s outstanding Jr. High teachers emphasize four key 21st century skills: collaboration and teamwork, creativity and imagination, critical thinking, and problem solving. Our curriculum remains firmly rooted in foundational subjects: Theology, Literature, Grammar, Writing, Mathematics, Social Studies and Science/STEM (Science, Technology,Engineering and Math).
Students’ unique learning needs are met through a variety of resources such as accelerated math classes and support from Learning Resource specialists. A 1:1 device program provides students with opportunities to effectively and responsibly use technology for learning. In addition to the Specials classes – Spanish, PE, Music, and Library/Media and Art- students have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of extracurricular activities.
Students are also provided leadership opportunities through our House system. Our House system is time put aside each week for students to work on team building, service activities, or to work with the younger grades in our school. At the center of the Jr. High curriculum is our Catholic faith. In addition to preparation for the sacrament of Confirmation, students work to develop a spiritual framework for moral decision making, with Jesus as a role model for personal maturing and Christian love, through study of a broad spectrum of topics.
